چکیده

Combined genetic and epigenetic analysis of sporadic colon cancer suggest that it can no longer be viewed as a single disease. There are at least three different subsets with distinct clinico-pathologic features, with important implications for preventions, screening, and therapy.

CpG island methylator phenotype associates with low-degree chromosomal abnormalities in colorectal cancer.

PURPOSE Aberrant promoter methylation and genomic instability occur frequently during colorectal cancer development. CpG island methylator phenotype (CIMP) has been shown to associate with microsatellite instability, and BRAF mutation and is often found in the right-side colon. Nevertheless, the relative importance of CIMP and chromosomal instability (CIN) for tumorigenesis has yet to be thorou...

Prognostic Significance of CpG Island Methylator Phenotype in Colorectal Cancer

which permits unrestricted non-commercial use, distribution, and reproduction in any medium, provided the original work is properly cited. Colorectal cancer (CRC) is one of the major causes of cancer-related morbidity and mortality worldwide. Despite of recent advances of variable therapeutic techniques in CRC, cancer progression and metastasis remain the major contributors to cancer-related mo...

Hypermethylator phenotype in sporadic colon cancer: study on a population-based series of 582 cases.

The CpG island methylator phenotype (CIMP) is a distinct phenotype in colorectal cancer, associated with specific clinical, pathologic, and molecular features. However, most of the studies stratified methylation according to two subgroups (CIMP-High versus No-CIMP/CIMP-Low). In our study, we defined three different subgroups of methylation (No-CIMP, CIMP-Low, and CIMP-High) and evaluated the pr...

The Role of the CpG Island Methylator Phenotype on Survival Outcome in Colon Cancer

BACKGROUND/AIMS CpG island methylator phenotype (CIMP)- high colorectal cancers (CRCs) have distinct clinicopathologi-cal features from their CIMP-low/negative CRC counterparts. However, controversy exists regarding the prognosis of CRC according to the CIMP status. Therefore, this study examined the prognosis of Korean patients with colon cancer according to the CIMP status. METHODS Among a ...

B Vitamins, Methionine and Alcohol Intake and Risk of Colon Cancer in Relation to BRAF Mutation and CpG Island Methylator Phenotype (CIMP)

BACKGROUND One-carbon metabolism appears to play an important role in DNA methylation reaction. Evidence suggests that a low intake of B vitamins or high alcohol consumption increases colorectal cancer risk. How one-carbon nutrients affect the CpG island methylator phenotype (CIMP) or BRAF mutation status in colon cancer remains uncertain. METHODS Utilizing incident colon cancers in a large p...
